My family is not adaptable to foreign cuisines so taking them out during family dinners is quite a challenge. Good thing, there is a Chinese restaurant in Serendra which was a safe option and a familiar cuisine to their conservative palate.  Wang Fu saved me from the hassle of finding a good spot to celebrate my brother’s birthday.

Wang Fu is a restaurant featuring innovative Chinese and Singaporean cuisine, integrating sweet and spicy to experimental ingredients. To highlight the Singaporean side of the restaurant, they offer milk teas and various dips and sauces to their main courses.

The restaurant is bright and well-lit. Playing on the tones of orange, black and yellow, the dining area is relaxing and not too formal. The colored chopsticks placed at the table are eye-catching too!

One reason I keep coming back to Wang Fu is the value for money. Their food selections are very affordable and are good for sharing, which is unlikely practical and reasonable for a high-end location like Serendra.

For the starter, we ordered the Seafood Green Soup. Its color may be quite odd and distracting, but surprisingly excellent in taste. If I am correct, the soup had squid and fish fillet for its main ingredients. It was thick and had the right amount of saltiness, a piping hot soup to warm you at any time of the day.

Salted-egg infused dishes aren’t new to me, being the latest food craze today. Sadly, there are only a few creations that suit well with salted egg yolk. I can say that the Salted Egg Fried Chicken in Wang Fu is one of those I find amazingly good. The coating is even and complements well the tenderness of the chicken. No doubt it is one of the best sellers in Wang Fu.

The Salt and Pepper Fried Squid was also a top favorite for me and my sister. The batter complements the softness of the squid.

I find the Sweet and Sour Pork too sweet for my preference. Others might deem it balanced, depending on their taste. It has Lychee and crunchy bell peppers for added texture and flavor.

The Wonton Noodle Soup was my mom’s pick. The wonton dumplings were tightly stuffed with meat but the soup was a bit lacking in flavor.

Not to be missed in Wang Fu is their tasty Hainanese Chicken. So far, this is the best Hainanese I’ve tasted. The thick brown sauce goes well with the three other sauces: soy, chili and ginger. The mixture of three produces a well-balanced concoction of flavors from sweet, spicy to savory.

It’s my first time to try Polonchay and later found out that this vegetable is commonly used in Asian food. It’s crunchy and not overly cooked or wilted, and the garlic toppings lent extra crisp to the vegetables.

We tried their beverages too. We had Singapore Milk Tea and Honey Lemon Tea. The milk tea was not too far from the commercial teas we’ve been patronizing, only less sweeter. The Honey Lemon Tea was equally refreshing. These two made me think that the range of their juices have unique blends, that differ from the ones ready -made.

Wang Fu is a recommended place for informal gatherings, family celebrations, with decent and affordable choices to cater to your budget. It’s one of the restaurants in Serendra apt for everyone looking for no-frills dining but is well-rounded on favorable Chinese food options.

And it was a success! My family loved it!
