Jem and I have been eyeing to dine at Wildflour since it opened its first branch in 9th Ave. cor 26th St. in BGC in 2013. I was working before in Marajo Tower and Jem was working in RCBC and the restaurant is near our workplace. We got curious why the place is always filled with customers despite its tiny space and unpopular location which was dominated mostly by corporate buildings. We’ve also heard that celebrities frequent this café and it is always featured in lifestyle news, blogs, and websites. Hence, we promised to ourselves back in 2013 that we will dine here one day to check what the fuss is all about.
Years passed and we haven’t fulfilled that plan. We moved to different offices and had new jobs, but Wildflour lingered in my minds every time we’d talk about it. I still tag Jem whenever I see Wildlfour’s luscious food and pastry creations and was surprised that she invited me to dine in its newest branch in Uptown one fine Saturday. I thought she was just joking; after all she just got married and I understand that her focus is her husband this time.
Of course, I did not hesitate to go. It’s probably the perfect time to cross it out from our list and move on in our lives, haha!
The new branch in Uptown
This new branch in Uptown Parade just across Uptown Mall wows us with its spacious dining area. It’s also the biggest branch of Wildlflour in the Metro. Alfresco dining also looks inviting for those who want to enjoy coffee outside with a nice view of BGC, but we opted to dine inside because it was hot that day.
The staff is welcoming and friendly, ushering us to our preferred seats. Upon entering, the pretty breads and pastries arranged neatly on glass shelves are too eye catching not to notice.
Looks like people are definitely enjoying their stay in this café despite the social distancing measures. We’re quite annoyed by a loud group of diners in front of our table and they were seated comfortably and chitchatting noisily as if it was not a café.
Anyway, we just minded our own business and skimmed the menu for our orders.
Our orders
While Jem instantly knew what to order, ironically, I had a hard time choosing mine despite my obvious familiarity with the items at Wildflour. Maybe I was not too hungry that time, or was too picky since that I don’t want to ruin my first experience with Wildlfour. Might I add, the food is quite pricey! Better not to make a mistake.
Anyway, she had the Wildflour Breakfast while I had the Bacon Fried Rice. We also had smoothies to pair our main dishes.
I was surprised to see that my bacon is a huge slab of meat as I was expecting the thin, crispy ones. I got apprehensive at first because I don’t eat pork fat. However, I was happy that it was not purely fat. The meat was fork-tender, and the serving size was huge enough to fill my belly. Despite the meat being well-seasoned, I still asked for catsup because I find it too plain without the sauce. The garlic rice was generously sprinkled with spring onion and the egg was a bit burnt on the sides.

Jem’s Wildflour Breakfast is a hefty serving of scrambled eggs, sausages, potatoes, and baguette. We were expecting the sausages to be the typical Hungarian sausage, but got surprised to see the round patties. It was a bit bland for my taste but it goes nice with catsup. Anyway, the portion is too heavy to be consumed by a single person and I bet Jem got filled up too.

Here are our smoothies:

Over-all Experience
Finally, we’re done with Wildflour! I can say that the food is not too ordinary as seen in the presentation and serving portions. I also can’t say that it’s too delicious nor too promising for the price — but again, these are just two orders to judge the rest of the menu. If you’re looking for a new café concept that serves mains, coffee, and pastries, then Wildflour might be the venue you are looking for. I bought pastries for myself and Jem, just to try out Wildlfour’s signature creations and I can say that next time, Danishes and Croissants with a hot cup of coffee in my hand perhaps would be a better idea.
Thanks to my good friend, Jemmie, for letting me experience Wildflour after how many years! I also appreciate that she took the time to spend a date with me even if she’s already married. As usual, I missed those usual conversations I have with her — no pretentions, no secrets, no hesitations.
And undoubtedly, food will always bind us TOGETHER.

My wife and I love Wildflour! We regularly had our dates at Wildflour in Makati. The food is really good. We haven’t tried the Bacon Fried Rice yet but we’ll do when it’s ok to dine in restaurants.

I remember that queue of customers waiting in their branch at NET LIMA, and it is always a disappointing feeling because we can’t get a table! Every day is packed! I need to make an advance reservation a day before, just to get a decent table.
